What kind of hosting is required for a SiteNOTE website ?

SiteNOTE requires a Microsoft hosting (Windows 2003 Server) with ASP.NET 3.5. Even if it is easier to host on your own server, SiteNOTE can be hosted on a shared hosting service, but only if:

Trust level settings have not been modified (default settings is "Full")
InProc Session mechanism is available (hoster does not require sessions to be managed using a state server)

Does SiteNOTE allow multi-language websites ?

Yes, SiteNOTE is designed to handle several language versions of the same site on a main URL. This appears in the URL as a ISO-language code in the URL below the "default" main folder.

Each language version can be managed independently of the others, allowing to have different page structures per language.

Does SiteNOTE require a database or database link ?

SiteNOTE does not require a database for storing website content or SiteNOTE specific data. It only requires a Microsoft Access Driver (OLE-DB) if the website requires to store data submitted via forms.

How to install SiteNOTE with ASNET 2.0 64 bits (Access OLEDB problem) ?

SiteNOTE requires a Microsoft Access Driver (OLE-DB) if the website requires to store data submitted via forms.

64 bits systems/ASPNET versions do not handle OLE-DB the same way as 32 bits systems, which is required by SiteNOTE.

Follow the below procedure to make ASPNET 2.0 32 bits release work on 64 bits systems.

Clic on "Start", "Run", and execute "CMD".
Execute the following command to activate 32 bits mode :
cscript %SYSTEMDRIVE%\inetpub\adminscripts\adsutil.vbs SET W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 1
Execute the following command to install ASP.NET 2.0 (32 bits) and scripts mappings in IIS :
%SYSTEMROOT%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -i
Ensure that the state of ASP.NET version 2.0.50727 (32 bits) is defined as "Authorized" in the list of web services extensions in IIS service manager.

Does SiteNOTE integrate with custom applications ?

Yes, SiteNOTE is developped using standard Microsoft Dot NET technologies. It is possible to integrate custom controls or applications, developped as server or client controls (CS or ASCX files).

Are Web Statistics possible / integrated with SiteNOTE ?

Yes, of course.

Server statistics are provided by default on CrossFactory' servers; these are generated using the well-known tool AWstats that bases its analyses on server logs.

Client-based statistics, like Google stats or Omniture stats are easily integrable as well. The corresponding Javascript code is inserted in the main template (RootMasterPage) of the site and customized to report automatically the context values to the stats systems, using, for example, the human-readable page name and site structure in URLs.

Is SEO (Search Engine Optimization) easy for SiteNOTE based websites ?

Yes.

SiteNOTE allows the editor to insert meta information on its pages and alternate text information on pictures and multimedia contents.
SiteNOTE uses human-readable URLs
SiteNOTE complies as much as possible with XHTML standards. (Design implementation should follow the same rule but remains the choice of the webmaster)
SiteNOTE provides XML sitemap (referenced in robots.txt file) and major search engines ping possibilities to request indexing refreshing.
SiteNOTE does not use techniques considered as "sensible" by main search engines

But of course, besides the technical possibilities, SEO remains a process mainly related to content optimization, appropriate keywords and content formatting, good back-links, etc ...

How to configure SiteNOTE' Search Engine to index MS Office documents ?

UltimateSearch indexes the content of the site according to rules that are defined in its config file, in UltimateSearch's folder.

While it automatically indexes text and PDF content, it needs IFilters for indexing MS Office (2003 and 2007) content. Related extensions (DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPT, PPTX) should be inserted in the IFilters list of the config file.

IFilters should be installed on the server that hosts your website. Installing Office 2003 IFilters is done via the MS Office 2003 setup disk; select the appropriate item in the components available in the setup wizard.

Office 2007 IFilters can be installed independantly. See this Ifilter Download detail link on Microsoft website for more information. Notice that this install package does not contain Office 2003 filters.

Can SiteNOTE CMS be installed on GoDaddy shared hosting ?

No. GoDaddy.com applies modified security settings on its hosting environments (Trusted mode=medium) that prevent SiteNOTE to run properly.

Can SiteNOTE CMS be installed on WebHost4Life shared hosting ?

No. WebHost4Life.com requires a session state server, and this mechanism is not yet supported by SiteNOTE.

Can SiteNOTE CMS be installed on SeekDotNet shared hosting ?

Yes. SiteNOTE has been Installed successfully on their basic hosting plan. Advertised on Google. See www.SeekDotNet.com .

Can SiteNOTE CMS be installed on InfoSaic shared hosting ?

Yes. SiteNOTE has been Installed successfully on their basic hosting plan. Recommended on 411ASP.NET. See www.InfoSaic.com .
